Donor/Sponsorship FAQs

May I choose the child I sponsor?

All children are precious in the eyes of God and treated equally in accordance with their need as part of the Mountain Top Ministries program. That said, you may indicate a preference for your sponsored child's gender on the secure on-line sponsorship form. Mountain Top Ministries matches children with sponsors in the order that they are registered in the program.

What is the length of commitment for sponsorship?

The length of your commitment is up to you. However, if you must end your sponsorship for any reason, your sponsored child will continue to benefit from community programs and we will find a new sponsor for your sponsored child as quickly as we can.

Please keep in mind that sponsorship for less than a year adds additional work and increases the expenses of the program. Short sponsorships also limit your ability to become acquainted with your child.

How much does child sponsorship cost?

$25 a month - about a dollar a day - helps build a better future for the child you sponsor, his or her family and community. You can choose to pay automatically through your credit card or pre-authorized withdrawals from your bank account on a monthly basis. Use our on-line sponsorship form to set up your preferred method of contributions.

What if I fall behind?

We have made commitments to the field and you have become the key in helping us keep those commitments. Therefore, your regularity and faithfulness is vital. If you should come to a place of difficulty in your sponsorship - please let us know. We understand that at times it may become difficult to make sponsorship payments.

How long do children remain sponsored through Mountain Top Ministries?

All sponsored children remain in the Mountain Top Ministries program until they are finished high school, although upon graduation they will continue to benefit through our involvement in their community.

When that happens, you will receive a profile and photograph of a new child to sponsor. Building a new relationship may seem a little challenging at first, but our experience is that introducing a new child eases the transition. Most sponsors appreciate the opportunity to touch as many lives as possible.

However, if introducing a new sponsored child is unacceptable to you, please e-mail us from our "Contact Us" page at www.MTMHaiti.com and type "Discontinue new sponsorship".

For your commitment of only $25 per month your sponsored child will receive:
  • School uniform assistance, School books and supplies, Quality teachers and administration
  • One meal at lunchtime during school, Quality healthcare

As a sponsor, you will receive:

  • A student profile with your child's photo and personal information
  • Bi-annual updates on your student
  • Open opportunities to correspond or visit with your child

Will I always have the same child?

For a number of reasons it may become necessary to reassign a child. Here are some:

•  The family and/or child moves out of the area;
•  The child graduates from high school;
•  The child marries (this is common at a younger age in other cultures);
•  The child passes away;

When or how often will I receive a progress report on my sponsored child?

Progress reports of the children are sent to sponsors once each year.

Also, sponsors should receive an updated photograph once during the year.

It may come with the child's annual progress report or with a letter from the child.

If it has been more than a year since you last received a progress report, please contact us by sending a feedback message or by e-mail us from the "Contact Us" page at www.MTMHaiti.com and type "No correspondents in one year".

What Is the General Ministries Fund?

A contribution to Mountain Top Ministries through the "donate button" will be placed into the General Ministry Fund that helps meet the extraordinary needs of non-sponsored children and families in areas too dangerous or unstable for sponsorship. This fund helps by providing things like emergency food, health care, education, clean water projects, agricultural assistance, housing and economic/community development.

This fund assists Mountain Top Ministries in responding quickly to emergencies and natural disasters and also supplements the sponsorship program. Through assistance from friends like you Mountain Top Ministries is able to help meet these essential needs.

How can I make a gift sponsorship on behalf of another person?

Our online sponsorship technology does not yet support gift sponsorships made on behalf of another person. To do this, please E-mail MTM from the "Contact Us" page at www.MTMHaiti.com and type "Gift sponsorship on behalf of another person".

How will you show me where my money goes and the results of my contribution?

Mountain Top Ministries has a policy of accountability and openness. We will be publishing an Annual Report containing financial statement that will be available at www.Guidestar.org after November 2008.

We encourage sponsors to visit in Haiti to meet the children and their families, visit their communities, and observe the impact of their assistance first-hand. Sponsors will receive newsletter updates, project updates and an annual report including our audited financial statements each year starting in 2009. Sponsors also receive annual reports on the progress of their sponsored child and his or her family.

Is Mountain Top Ministries involved in foreign adoptions?

Mountain Top Ministries' childcare ministry provides assistance to needy children in their own country and does not include arrangements for adoptions.
We can, however, refer you to a couple of reputable affiliate agencies which perform this service.

They will be able to explain the qualifications, procedures, waiting periods, costs, and other aspects of the adoption process.

You may wish to contact us by e-mailing MTM from the "Contact Us" page at www.MTMHaiti.com and type "Adopt a child".
